Dear Jeff,

I sent an email to Computer Assistance on the 15th, but have had no reply yet.

Are they closed now due to the coronavirus ?

If you are looking for an Oxford-based company that can put together a Linux build like that for you, Computer Assistance has both the PC-building and Linux experience to do so.

Might be worth a call to the PC department to discuss the build requirements (01865 717088), I'm sure they'd be happy to help.

Cheers,
Jeff

Incidentally - I'm sure that Novatech could build that for you. As indeed
could I, but I'm not in the hardware business.

Yes Novatech. But also https://www.pcspecialist.co.uk/ is another place
where you can configure your own system and you don't have to pay MS
tax.

My only connection with PCspecialist is that I have bought a Clevo
laptop from them (like Novatech, they rebrand Clevo under their own
invented names...). I was originally going to go to Novatech for one of
their rebranded Clevos, but found PCspecialist have a far wider range
with much more flexibility. Don't know about the destop/workstation
options.

Hi Mick,

If you want to give me a call on 01865
980263 Tuesday, we certainly discuss your options. Or I can call you.

There are some good responses to your question and worth considering as
well.

Thanks
Simon

Dear Simon,

Thanks very much for your offer of help. I wish to replace an old (about 4
1/2 years) desktop with an up to date desktop
with roughly similar system. The current desktop has 4 x 1 TB hard drives,
arranged as RAID system. I also need
Debian Buster installed as the operating system. I am having great
difficulty in finding a computer supplier who can
configure the desktop needed. So far I have found one supplier in the EU
who might be able to help and maybe one supplier
in the UK. I sent my message to see if anyone in OXLUG could suggest any
suppliers, preferably in the UK, but otherwise
in the EU.

www.techfabrica.com

Please excuse the website, I thought I would take the current situation
to update the site..

Please let me know if I can be of any further assistance.

Hello all - new to the list

Rather than RAID you might want to consider ZFS (striped or RAIDZ1/ RAIDZ2
depending on usage case)
