I've downloaded from two different SUSE mirrors and burned on different
media on two different drives and the DVD iso still bombs out at about
18% with a copy error on two different pooters... anyone else seen this?
ISTR a problem like this back in early opensuse days, is this a repeat
of a broken install dvd setup again?
This is something I've seen before with installation DVDs and DVD readers of -ahem- a certain age!
The ISO image downloads OK, and the checksum verifes. The DVD is successfully written (that too verifies). What bombs out the whole process is that the DVD drive in the box that you're installing on fails to read it. CDs are read fine by the same drive. This happens on an older (c.3 years old) PC that I was using as a test box. The solution that I adopted was to do a 1-CD network installation - the instructions are here:
http://en.opensuse.org/INSTALL_Internet
(in my case I built a network installation server - very easy on OpenSUSE - but that's probably overkill in this case!).
I hope that helps,
Andrew
