Hi folks,
I'm running Mandriva 2010 on an old Advent 8001 laptop (P4M 1.8GHz, 1gb)
and I need to find a way to disable the onboard VIA97 sound.
Reason is that the output socket is dodgy (and has been for a long time)
so back when it was still a windows unit I picked up a Soundblaster USB
box. However almost the only thing that seems to use the SOundblaster
correctly is Amarok (which has menu options for sound output), so while
I can do a lot of stuff with it I can't watch videos as neither vlc nor
any other video app I can find seem to have this feature. I can't get to
the motherboard (notoriously hard to disassemble) and I can't find a
setting in the bios. Equally I can't find anything in Mandriva Control
Centre that actually lets me disable the driver, just change it to other
drivers (and I couldn't find a "no driver" option.... Equally I couldn't
find anything (in MCC or KMix) that lets me define the Soundblaster as
being the primary sound device. I'm using ALSO but have no experience
setting it up so wouldn't know where to begin....
Any ideas?
Many thanks,
chrisc
