To be fair to him, he didn't sell MySQL AB. He relinquished control of
the company to get investment, and it was the subsequent owners who
sold to Sun. He also didn't get much of the billion dollars that Sun
paid for the company - it wouldn't have been all cash anyway, as the
billion would have reflected the value of stock and anything else of
value that changed hands. I've read that he got a few million dollars
in exchange for his shares, while the bulk of what Sun paid went to the
investors.

What confuses me, is that Widenius has stated he doesn't want the
ability to recreate the dual (open and closed) license of MySQL AB, in
which case I can't understand why he's kicking up such a fuss. Of
the few companies I've known who've had MySQL AB contracts, it was for
support, so if as he claims Oracle stop MySQL development altogether,
then it's an opportunity for his new company to get the customer base.
