Subject: [OxLUG] Sound problems with a Debian Jessie PC
I would be very grateful if someone could help to solve the following
problem with support by telephone. If anyone is willing and able to
supply such support, could they please let me know their availability
and how much they would charge per hour.  Thanks very much.
The computer is in Oxford.

I have had problems with the sound on a desktop PC running Debian Jessie.
The sound has been lost. VLC and website sound were not working.
Pulseaudio and pavucontrol were installed.

In VLC,  Audio output device:
was set to :-
Playback/recording through the PulseAudio sound server.

VLC  appears to now be working although it still gives the following error
(as it did before):

[000000000104d608] pulse audio output error: PulseAudio server connection failure: Connection refused

Also, there now appears to be sound with the Chromium browser (although this was off and on before so it may not last), but still no sound with the Iceweasel browser.

Also :-

% cat ~/.asoundrc
No such file or directory

% cat /etc/asound.conf
pcm.!default {
type hw
card 0
}

ctl.!default {
type hw
card 1
}

A further problem has since arisen with a mysterious sound coming through the
loudspeakers : a metallic, whooping kind of sound.

Also an overnight problem with the monitor going blank. After restarting the
monitor, it gave a "No Signal" message. The computer had to be rebooted
to get the monitor back to normal.

It would be greatly appreciated if anyone can help with this problem with
support over the phone (this evening if at all possible). Thanks Very Much.
