This Sunday's meeting will be held in the Danson Room at Trinity
College (the same room as we have used before) and NOT in Comlab.
It'll start at 6.30pm as usual. The entrance to Trinity College
is through a small door just to the right of the large gates
half-way along Broad Street. If you're late, ask the porter
for directions to the room.
The speaker is Charlie Brady and the topic is E-Smith.
The e-smith server and gateway is a specialised Linux distribution
suitable for small-to-medium enterprises or home networks. It provides
Internet gateway functions; file and print sharing; mail, web and FTP
servers; and a heap of other useful features. Best of all, it's both
easy to administer (via a web interface) *and* extremely customisable
and extensible by the more experienced Linux user. This presentation
will introduce the e-smith server and gateway system and explore some
of the features that make it appealing to novice and experienced users
alike.
Charlie Brady is Lead Software Developer at e-smith, inc. He's been
contributing design ideas and code to the e-smith software project
since soon after the initial e-smith software release announcement on
Freshmeat. You can read about some of this early work (which has an
Oxford connection) at http://www.caa.org.au/groups/IT/dili/ . He is
currently touring the UK with YAACT (yet another Australian cricket
team).
