There's another British Computer Society meeting in Oxford on Thursday in
Comlab to which we're all invited - see below.
Also note that the Greater London Linux User Group meeting on Saturday
has been postponed until some time in January.
The first OxLUG meeting of Y2K will be on the *second* Sunday of January -
the 9th.
There's still time to book for the UKUUG's conference in Cambridge next
week with a strong technical programme that covers Java Security, Secure
Single Signon, Spam, Data Protection, Exim, Sunsite Northern Europe
and lots of opportunity for discussion etc.

Malcolm Blackmore's auction on Sunday raised a magnificant GBP 26.86 - so
OxLUG now has some funds! Thanks to everyone who contributed and
especially to Malcolm! Full accounts will be kept in the "members only"
part of our web site in due course. (Volunteers for writing a web
interface?)

========
7.30pm 9th December, Prof. A P Willmore, Professor of Space Research,
School of Physics and Astronomy, University of Birmingham.
The Hubble Space Telescope was launched in 1990, and was intended to tackle
its objectives in a far superior way to what could be obtained on the
ground. Once the initial problems with the optical system were resolved
(after launching) Hubble has contributed in an important way to our
understanding of the formation of stars, the formation and development of
galaxies and the evolution of the Universe. No prior knowledge of this
subject is assumed.
